Satoshi
Kanai was born in 1951 in Gunma
and is currently a professor at Ryotokuji University Faculty
of Arts and a member of the Dokuritsu Art Association.
He expresses his gentle view towards nature and humans witty
and unconventional in the technique of bordering contours with
gold leaf and by reducing the line to a minimum, which is the
characteristic of this artist. In the past he chose plants as
a theme, but now his attention is drawn towards human faces.
His “people’s faces” differ from the plants, because by joyfully
experimenting with various sections and depending on the arrangements
of every segment, spirit and emotion become visible. For Satoshi
Kanai there are no superiorities or inferiorities in comparison
to the modeling of natural vegetation, because “orchids and
weeds are beautiful as well”. There is no pointlessness for
being alive and there is no most efficient form. He admires
the beauty of form of living things in general.
