The word “photograph”
can be interpreted from its Greek origins as “record of lights”.
This can inspire us to think of those things which we observe
in front of us in any moment – colors, shapes, the world around
us.
Okamoto’s works were created by using developers and lights
in a process that allows every color in the printing paper to
reach the surface. The works may be seen as drawings that are
grasping the concept of photographic development. By using this
technology, the artist sees himself able to produce “records
of lights” more purely than in any other way.
“When I produce such works, I attach an importance to “beauty”
and correlate different materials with the images. Like flowers
are beautiful, or how a single stone can become someone’s treasure”.
